But I am never fully Naked. I Never just let you see me… for me.

Cause if you knew the things that I know about me… Would you still think that I am the exception?

So I… Take my insecurities and wrap them in confidence and good intentions so that they appear harmless.

.. So that I… I appear harmless.

I ask myself…

Are you in love with who I AM, or are you in love with the man that I choose to Show you?

I would like you to believe that I am always charming, never jealous, always motivated, and never angry.

That my smile is always genuine and that I handle my problems as calmly as I make it seem.

Layer after layer after layer…

Its been so long that I am not even sure anymore what’s at the core.

So I pose this…

What if we stood in front of each other Naked?

Scars out in the open.

If I… Panic and cover part of me in embarrassment…

will you reach for me and assure me that it’s okay?

If I… let my demons out will you hold tight to my hand while I face them?

And If I… Throw my arms to the sides and yell that THIS…

THIS IS THE REAL ME… and by loving me you will help me to love myself…

… Will you be able to?

But we are not yet Naked.

And until we are… Saying you love me will never mean what it should.

Is it my fault that what you make me feel paints metaphors in my mind that surpass my creativity?

I am not reciting lines from a verse that I have skillfully bended…

My confession becomes a sentence that holds more power than I intended.

But really all I wanted to tell you was that…

I didn’t know Love had a taste until I tried to savor the aura left by your lips,

and the other night I was just trying to explain that I do not Own but am merely a protector of your heart, standing guard, using my heart to shield yours…and,

Where were you when I was taking English my junior year?

It was… young crushes, the “whatever makes her blush” is… Good enough for Valentine’s Day on low budgets.

It was… Slow R&B, every night before I’d sleep, creating and molding the future lover in me.

It was… The first time I hung in balance, vulnerable. Walking that tight rope, popcorn and light jokes, afraid that I might choke… Hating and loving the fact that a girl could build me up and break me down.

It was… Watching strangers who looked happy hold hands and slow dance and publicly declare their feelings through a display only those who have known love can appreciate.

It was… Romantic comedies, yes, romantic comedies that painted the picture of  what real chemistry ought to be.

Passionate kisses, awkward moments… Mistakes in love forgiven if you’re man enough to own it.

It was… Emulating men who, knew not only how to capture a womans heart but knew how to keep it, better than they kept secrets.

It was… Conversations exploring the female mind, just to find… that I’ve known how to love them all this time.

A student of Love, eager to learn, so optimistic for my turn that I didn’t realize I was indeed… Ready.
